The Arthur Siegel Story


Arthur was born in Lakewood, NJ on December 31, 1923 and studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and music at Juilliard.

His Broadway shows included New Faces Of 1952, New Faces Of 1956, New Faces Of 1962 and New Faces Of 1968 as well as over two dozen Off-Broadway musicals, revues and cabaret shows including Tallulah starring Helen Gallagher and Corkscrews! currently available on Original Cast Records.

His hit songs included Love Is a Simple Thing, which had hundreds of various recordings, Monotonous, He Takes Me Off His Income Tax, Penny Candy and I Want You To Be the First One To Know. His song Open Your Eyes and Dream is heard seasonly on television in the Sebastian Cabot version of The Miracle On 34th Street.

He accompanied and/or wrote special material for Eddie Cantor, Kaye Ballard, Hermione Gingold, Nancy Walker, Eartha Kitt, Imogene Coca and Gypsy Rose Lee.

He was a featured performer and contributor to most of Ben Bagley's Revisited Albums.

He performed at almost every major venue around the world including Carnegie Hall, The Carlyle Hotel, The Hungry i, Mr. Kelly's, The St. Regis and The Algonquin.

Arthur passed away on September 13, 1994 at the age of 70 from complications of diabetes. He was a wonderful man and is missed every day by his loving friends. This web site is for him so that his music will live on.
